A rare Swiss 18 Carat gold open faced repoussé verge automaton pocket watch, circa 1700. Full plate movement, chain and fusee, three-arm brass balance. White enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic five minute numerals. The crystal case back reveals the biblical scene the Annunciation of the Lord, the figures of the angel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary appear at one minute intervals in the window, which is designed like a theatre stage, the case is further lavishly engraved with religious symbols and baroque style ornamentation, two later French import marks for gold 1864-1893. Comes with a winding key.
