A fine and heavy Swiss 18 carat rose gold hunting cased minute repeating lever pocket watch, circa 1900. Retailed by Carl Suchy & Söhne in Vienna, Austria. Bridge movement, two hammers, two gongs, a piston tooth lever escapement and screw compensation balance. A gold cuvette with the dedication engraving Ihrem und ihres Vaters altgetreuem Mitarbeiter in dankbarer Erinnerung an vierzig Jahre gemeinsamen Schaffens 1. April, 1910 Robert Hitschmann – Hugo Hitschmann (To your and your father’s longtime employees in grateful memory of forty years of working together April 1, 1910, Robert Hitschmann – Hugo Hitschmann). White enamel dial with black Arabic hours, an outer minute track, red Arabic five minute numerals, sunk subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and spade & whip hands. The plain case with an engraved monogram on the front, maker’s mark AJ. Case numbered. Comes with the original presentation box.

The brothers Robert and Hugo Hitschmann owned a large journal publishing house in the field of agriculture and forestry in Austria. They took over the publishing house from their father Hugo H. Hitschmann, founder of modern agricultural and forestry newspapers in Austria. The family came from an old Moravian farming family.
