An American multi coloured gold hunting cased lever watch featuring a locomotive scene and box hinges, circa 1886. Model 1872. This watch features a 16 size, nickel ¾ plate movement with a lever escapement and 15 jewels, some of which are set in gold screw set chatons. It includes a bimetallic compensation balance and a regulation scale engraved on the backplate with an extended arm. The watch is of grade AMN, engraved with Pat. Pinion, and is signed and numbered by AM. Watch Co., Waltham Mass., with a serial number. The white enamel dial displays Arabic numerals surrounded by pink flowers and swathes, with subsidiary seconds at the 6 o’clock position and filigree hands.

The 18 carat pink gold case is adorned with varicolour gold highlights. The front features a central cartouche engraved with buildings set against a wooded landscape and mountain backdrop, encircled by scrolling flowers and foliage. The back showcases a varicolour gold scene depicting a steam train with a diamond-set lamp motif, rail tracks, and a flower. Both covers are embellished with green and yellow gold stylised motifs, box hinges, and a gold cuvette. The case back bears the maker’s mark C.H. in a rectangular cameo and is stamped with the patent date Sep. 20, 1881. The cover and cuvette are numbered 8683.

The movement is running smoothly. The dial is in good condition, though the 1 index is slightly imperfect. The case is in good condition, with a few minor scuffs primarily in the background surrounding the train.
