Dudley Watch & Co was founded by William Wallace Dudley. He had worked in several American watch factories and created his dream at 69, setting up his own watch company. Presumably, Dudley was inspired by watches from M. Tobias & Co. which were made in England and had two Freemasonry emblems incorporated in the balance cock.

Freemasonry or Masonry is a worldwide spread and regionally structured fellowship that strives for spiritual and moral elevation, mutual appreciation and helping each other. It is a society with rituals. Its members are called Freemasons or Masons. They address each other as brother or sister. Freemasonry or Masonry refers to fraternal organisations that trace their origins to the local guilds of stonemasons that, from the end of the 13th century, regulated the qualifications of stonemasons and their interaction with authorities and clients.
