A rare American hunting-cased pocket watch with a patented fine adjusting device, circa 1861. The watch features a pink gold case that is florally engraved, engine-turned, monogrammed, and has a gold dome. Its enamel dial is signed and showcases radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, and blued spade hands. The watch has a signed 1/2 plate movement with 15 jewels. It also features a patented barrel Reed’s Patent 24. Nov. 1857, a gold screw compensation balance, and a centre wheel rack regulator Mershon’s Patent April 26. 1859.

Edward Howard was an American watchmaker who, together with Aaron Dennison, founded the American Watch Co. in 1851. However, despite being involved in the watch business, he was more interested in clocks. He founded a company that started as Howard & Dacis and became known as Howard Watch & Clock Co.
