A very fine and rare French 18 carat gold open faced verge pocket watch with visible skeletonized movement and original glazed and gilt metal outer case, circa 1767. Skeletonized, frosted gilt movement with foliate engraved backplate, three cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, micrometer adjustment to the potence, gold three armed balance with perpendicular limiting pin acting against two polished steel plates mounted at each side of the backplate, flat balance spring, polished steel endplate, index regulator. White enamel dial with dauphine numerals, outer dot minute divisions and Arabic quarter hour numerals, outer red painted date ring, original fine pierced gold hour and minute hands, steel serpentine date hand. glazedOuter case back glazed, inner case glazed on both sides, the bezels chased with oval paterae on a matte ground and with pie-crust borders. Movement signed and dated.
