A fine and rare French gilt-brass Louis XIV oignon watch, circa 1710. Frosted gilt full plate movement, divided Egyptian pillars, fusee and chain, click and pawl set-up, verge escapement, four-arm brass balance, pierced and chased cock decorated with symmetrical foliage and strapwork, regulator with silver scale disc and finely chased foliate silver feet. Engraved gilt-brass dial with black Roman numerals on white enamel cartouches, outer white enamel cartouches for the Arabic five-minute numerals, winding aperture between 2 and 3, partially replaced gilt-brass hands. The case back decorated with foliate and strapwork within a trellis border.
