A very fine and very rare Swiss 18 carat gold, platinum, enamel and diamond-set Art Nouveau beetle-form keyless cylinder pendant watch with concealed dial, circa 1900. Gilt movement with bar calibre, eight jewels, a cylinder escapement, three-arm gilt balance, flat balance spring and index regulator. A glazed cuvette. White enamel dial with black Arabic hours and red 12, a gilt dot outer minute track and gilt spade hands. A case in the shape of a beetle, the spring-loaded engine-turned wings with translucent royal blue enamel and set with rose-cut diamonds in platinum mounts, an opening to reveal the dial, the neck is blue enamelled and set with diamonds in platinum mounts, the head is also diamond-set, cabochon emerald eyes, a hinged realistically cast and chased underside
