An Austrian, very fine gentleman’s pocket lever chronometer watch, circa 1875. The watch features an 18 carat rose gold engine-turned à goutte case with a signed gold dome. Its enamel dial showcases radial Roman numerals, Arabic minutes, auxiliary seconds, and blued spade hands. The watch is equipped with a frosted gilt bridge movement that has a gold screw compensation balance, blued helical balance spring, and a counterpoised lever.

Ignatz Marenzeller was an Austrian watchmaker who lived in Vienna during the mid-19th century. He was known for his exceptional skills in watchmaking and was awarded the silver medal in 1835 and the gold medal in 1845 at the Vienna Exhibition for his excellent work.

Ignatz Marenzeller was born in 1797 and founded a watch shop in Vienna in 1830. He was named master craftsman in 1831 and worked at various locations including Rothethurmstrasse no. 647 (now no. 21) in 1845, Alten Fleischmarkt 700 and 728 from 1851 to 1854, and Haarmarkt 641. In 1831, his apartment was located at Bauernmarkt 581 in the Herzisches Haus, on the second floor, left side. By 1904, the company had permanently relocated to Rothethurmstrasse 19.

Marenzeller was one of the most renowned Viennese clockmakers and was associated with the finest Viennese regulators and roof clocks. For several years, he was a business partner of Mayer & Marenzeller (Anton Mayer?). In 1835, Marenzeller was awarded the silver medal at the Vienna Exhibition, and in 1845, he was awarded the gold medal. The company was named purveyor to the court.

Ignatz Marenzeller passed away on November 22nd, 1877. The company was then continued by Markus Anders and Walpurga Foff (née Anders). They supplied the best watches, such as Patek Philippe and A. Lange & Söhne.
