Gold Walloon pocket watch by L. J. Laguesse

A very fine Walloon quarter repeating verge pocket watch with date, circa 1810.
Gold, tiered and polished case with rear bell, pusher for repetition via pendant, lever for silence and a signed movement protection cap. Signed enamel dial with Arabic “Empire” numerals, outer date ring and gold Breguet hands. Full plate movement, ultra-thin, keywind, frosted, gilt and signed, with chain/fusee, solid movement pillars, two hammers, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance and a fine florally engraved and pierced balance bridge.

Lambert Jh. Laguesse was born on September 24, 1749 in Lüttig and baptized on the same day (St Nicolas outre Meuse). He was the son of Antoine Laguesse (? – 1714) and Marie Jh. Franck (1716-1794).
Laguesse married Marie-Anne-Jeanne Genin (1751-1824) on January 19, 1777 in Liège (Lüttig). From this marriage 7 children were born. The son Louis Jh. Moved to Paris as an entrepreneur. Daughter Marguerite Joséphine became a writer and married the Mahler and industrial Louis Jamme who was also mayor of Lüttig. Daughter Antoinette Laguesse married Jean François Jamme. In addition to small clocks, Lambert Laguesse clocks are also known. In the Pavlovsk Palace near Saint Petersburg there is a “Pendule squelette” by Laguesse with enamelling by Joseph Coteau (inv. No. 4177-IV).
Lambert Jh. Laguesse died on September 1st, 1831 , 82 years old.
