A highly unusual German agate and gilt metal verge watch with stack freed, circa 1640. Gilt brass oval verge movement, pierced and engraved floral decorated balance cock, two armed steel balance, steel stack freed, turned baluster pillars. Silver dial with Roman numerals chased and engraved foliage decorated border and centre, single steel hand. Oval deep case cut from a single piece of agate, matching cover with latch fastening, mounted in gilt metal frames and a flower-shaped gilt metal pendant.
