A French Louis XIV gilt brass oignon watch, circa 1705. Gilt full plate movement, divided Egyptian pillars, fusée and chain, verge escapement, three armed steel balance, flat balance spring, pierced and chased cock decorated with scrolling foliage, Tompion type regulator with silver scale disc. Gilt brass dial with blue radial Roman numerals on white enamel cartouches, inner quarter hour ring, outer engraved minute divisions and black Arabic five minute numerals on white enamel cartouches, chased center, winding aperture at 3 o’clock, steel beetle and poker hands. The case back chased and engraved with foliate strapwork, formal border, bezel decorated to match, square hinge, pendant with loose ring. Movement signed.
