One of the earliest watches of the Jürgensen Dynasty

An 18 Carat gold pocket watch made by Larpent & Jürgensen in Roskilde, Denmark, circa 1790. The numbered open faced plain case of this watch was crafted from 18 Carat gold and has a punch “FF” (from the court jeweller Fridrich Fabritius). The white enamel dial has black Arabic minute and hour numerals, a golden hour hand and a gilt minute hand. The very fine full plate movement has a cylinder escapement.

Jürgen Jürgensen (1745-1811) was the father of the important watchmaker Urban Jürgensen. In 1775 he founded his first watch factory in Copenhagen. In 1780 he entered into a partnership with Isaac Larpent and traded under “Larpent & Jürgensen” in Roskilde.
