Gold repeating pocket watch by Jules Jürgensen

A very fine, heavy minute repeating hunting case pocket watch with chronograph and patented Juergensen bow setting with copie of the Juergensen records, circa 1877.

18k rose gold case, polished, a goutte, chronograph pusher at “12”, slide for repeating mechanim, glazed movement.  Dial is enamel, radial Roman numerals, auxiliary seconds, blued Breguet hands. Bridge movement, signed, nickel plated, “fausses cotes” decoration, screwed gold chaton, finely ground and bevelled chronograph steel parts, ratchet wheel, 2 hammers, 2 gongs, wolfteeth winding wheels, gold screw compensation compensation balance, counterpoised lever.

Jules Juergensen (1808-1877)
He was born in Le Locle 1808 as son of the watchmacker Urban Jürgensen (grandson of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet). In Kopenhagen Juergensen received his training in the watchmaking business of his family and in addition studied mathematics, astronomy and foreign languages. Shortly after the death of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet, Juergensen went to Switzerland and opened a watch manufactory in Le Locle. His precision watches gained worldwide recognition.
