Jules Jürgensen 1808-1877 was born in Le Locle 1808 as a son of the watchmaker Urban Jürgensen (grandson of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet). In Copenhagen Jurgensen received his training in the watchmaking business of his family and in addition, studied mathematics, astronomy and foreign languages. Shortly after the death of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet, Jürgensen went to Switzerland and opened a watch manufactory in Le Locle. His precision watches gained worldwide recognition.
