This timepiece was crafted by Pieter Klock, a Dutch watchmaker who lived from 1665 to 1754. The case was made by Jean-Pierre Huaud, also known as the younger Huaud, a Swiss craftsman who lived from 1655 to 1723, and by Amy Huaud, another Swiss artisan who lived from 1657 to 1724.
In 1682, Jean-Pierre and Amy Huaud formed a partnership in Geneva and later moved to Berlin in 1686, where they worked until 1700. After their return to Geneva, they specialized in making watch cases for export. The watch case features an image of Roman Charity, a popular motif at the time. It was supplied to one of the top Amsterdam watchmakers who added the movement, bezel, and glass, possibly for a Dutch client who preferred painted enamels and depictions of women.

Pieter Klock (1665-1754) was a renowned watchmaker in Amsterdam who was also involved in the painting trade. He gained recognition for his expertise in crafting Dutch automaton seascape clocks (scheepjesmechaniek) and even designed a table clock with a second hand. In 1716, he was asked by the City fathers to compile a list of the best watchmakers in Amsterdam, which is a testament to the respect he commanded among his peers.
