–
A decorative Dutch 18 carat yellow gold pair cased open faced verge watch with repoussé decoration, circa 1760. This watch features a full plate movement with a verge escapement and chain fusée. It includes a signed white enamel dial with radial Roman numerals for the hours, outer railway minute divisions, Arabic numerals for five minute intervals, and Poker & Beetle hands. It has two cases: the outer case is a gold repoussé design with a lateral hinge, and the inner case is polished gold. Both the dial and movement are signed, and the inside of the case is hallmarked.

The movement is functioning properly. The dial is generally intact, with a minor chip near the right and centre post, and slight restorations between 9 and 10 o’clock and 2 and 3 o’clock. The inner case shows typical wear and dents consistent with the watch’s age. The gold outer case is in excellent and well-preserved condition.

Johan Hendrik Wiedeking worked as a watchmaker in Utrecht, he was born around 1730 and was probably of German origin. Large clocks (floor clocks) and small clocks are known from these clockmakers. On July 15, 1796, Johan Hendrik was a witness at the notary HN Schalkwyk for the will of his daughter Maria Elizabeth Wiedeking with Ernst Edel Jobst Braagman. Maria Elizabeth was called a bride at the notary, Ernst Edel Jobst was called a bridegroom and was the widower of Geertrui de Vrint.

Johan Hendrik Wiedeking died on April 6, 1802 in Utrecht.
