An elegant gold Danish hunting cased precision pocket watch, circa 1856.
Bridge movement, German silver, keywind signed, club-tooth lever escapement, large gold screw compensation balance, engraved regulator scale with long index hand, and a counterpoised lever. Signed enamel dial with radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, and blued Breguet hands. 18 Carat gold, engine-turned, à goutte case, reeded band, numbered and signed gold dome, and case maker’s punch mark JJ.

Jules Jürgensen(1808-1877)
He was born in Le Locle as son of the watchmaker Urban Jürgensen (grandson of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet). In Copenhagen Jürgensen received his training in the watchmaking business of his family and in addition studied mathematics, astronomy and foreign languages. Shortly after the death of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet, Jürgensen went to Switzerland and opened a watch manufactory in Le Locle. His precision watches gained worldwide recognition.
