Gold open faced key winding verge watch
–
A fine English 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch, circa 1790. It has a mechanical key winding movement with a verge fusee escapement, commonly called a catalino movement, housed in an 18 carat gold inner case back. The ornate gold dial features an elegant hand engraved textured centre and gold Roman numerals for the hours set within a decorative chapter ring. The border is finely applied with multicoloured gold floral and foliage accents, and it has sleek blued steel sword hands. The timepiece is housed in a beautifully detailed round three body, 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case decorated with complex engine turned and engraved patterns across the bezel and caseband. It has a short fluted winding stem and a sturdy round suspension bow.
