An English pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement, circa 1866.
Silver polished case with a silver dome and case maker’s punch mark WR (William Rowlands of London). Numbered, signed enamel dial with Roman radial hours, auxiliary seconds, and blued Fleur de Lys hands. Keywind, frosted, gilt, numbered, signed, brass full plate movement, with chain/fusee, chatoned ruby endstone on the escape wheel, spring detent escapement according to Thomas Earnshaw, gold screw compensation balance, free-sprung blued balance spring with terminal curve, fine florally engraved balance cock, and chatoned diamond endstone on balance.

Clifford Lupton was an English watchmaker in London, born in 1825, working at 4 Keppel Street, Russell Square and 31 Cornhill. Clifford Lupton worked as a chronometer maker for Barraud & Lund. He became a member of the British Horological Institute in 1868. Elegant table clocks from Clifford are also known. Clifford Lupton died in March 1910.
