A fine open faced gold watch with up and down indication,circa 1894. Gilt half plate movement with double roller lever escapement, 14 jewels in screwed settings, fusee and raised barrel, diamond endstone, off-white enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, blued steel hands, outer minute track, up/down indication at 12, 18k yellow gold case, case back with engraving of a winged fortress, gold cuvette, hallmarked London 1894, No 07664, case maker’s mark HM.

Accompanied by a Certificate of Origin dated 4 November 2015 from Charles Frodsham & Co., Ltd., confirming manufacture in 1894. The certificate further notes that the movement was supplied by Preston in 1888. This watch is a classic example of Frodsham up/down watch. The movement, supplied in 1888, was originally born as in a hunting case and was transferred to the current open face case in 1894, confirmed by Charles Frodsham & Co., Ltd.
