A fine, early English pair cased silver watch for the Turkish market, circa 1768.
Silver double cases, each polished. Signed enamel convex dial with Turkish (Arabic) hours, outer minutes with five-minute Turkish numerals and blued “Poker & Beetle” hands. Frosted, fire gilt full plate with broad Egyptian pillars with pierced galleries above, chain/fusee, verge escapement, English pierced and engraved cock, ruby cap jewel and silver regulating plate engraved with Turkish numerals.

William Dunant is best known for a remarkable one-hour-remontoire bracket clock with friction rollers and equation of time. An interesting watch signed by him is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Inv. 32.75.40 a-e.).
