An English rare gentleman’s pocket watch with English lever escapement, designed as slow beat according to Thomas Yates with 7200 semi oscillations per hour, circa 1848. This watch has a gold engine turned case with reeded band and movement protection cap. It features an enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, auxiliary seconds, signature: Yates Patentee, and spade hands. The keywind, frosted, gilt, and signed full plate movement includes chain/fusee, large chatoned jewels in Liverpool windows, moulded pillars, English lever escapement, large gold screw compensation balance, engraved balance cock Patent, engraved regulator scale, and a set diamond endstone on the balance.

Thomas Yates (1812-1890). In 1853, he received several silver medals and awards for his watch designs from the Society of Arts. He obtained English patent 11443 for the escape wheel of a deadbeat escapement in 1846.
