Silver chronometer with spring detent escapement

A rare English silver pair-cased pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement and temperature compensation by Thomas Earnshaw, circa 1798. A smooth à goutte outer case with maker’s mark TC, the inner case with maker’s mark TH. White enamel dial with radial Roman hours, outer minute divisions and auxiliary seconds at 6 o’clock and gold hands. Brass full plate movement, key wind, blued screws, chain and fusee, solid movement pillars, spring detent escapement, three-arm steel balance, sugar tongs temperature compensation, blued balance spring, chatoned endstone on escape wheel. Dial and movement signed and numbered.
