Silver pair cased pocket watch

A rare English silver pair cased single handed pocket watch with retrograde hour dial, and day and night display made by Thwing in London, circa 1680. Signed key wind full plate movement with a verge escapement, fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates, florally engraved and pierced three arm brass balance. The silver champlevé dial features retrograde Roman hours, surrounding Arabic minutes and a blued steel hand. In the upper half of the center is a semicircular aperture for displaying the phases of the sun and moon on a silver disk that rotates once every 24 hours, when the sun disappears on the right side of the display, the moon appears on the left side. The silver disc is finely engraved with the moon, stars and sun. The outer case has underpainted studded horn in imitation of tortoiseshell, engraved and inlaid with a tree and house. Signed dial and movement, the case stamped FF.
