The square case of this extremely attractive golf pocket watch is fitted and has a finely engraved bezel with faceted engraved hour markers. The case is framed by a gold cord, the design of which is repeated in the 41 cm long Gay Frères watch chain.
The timepiece came from the first owner and was bought in 1962, as seen on the original invoice supplied. The state of preservation is extraordinarily good; the watch and the associated accessories have been given special care and have hardly been worn. The dial shimmers in a warm silver tone and still has a raised, black enamelled “Patek Philippe Genève” lettering and enamelled radial hour indices.
Patek Philippe’s reference 785 was made in 18k yellow or rose gold from 1960 to 1964. F. Baumgartner made the case; the design comes from the ingenious designer Gilbert Albert from 1959, whose unique works are coveted by collectors and museums alike.
Patek Philippe brought the young Geneva jewellery designer Gilbert Albert on board in 1955; this collaboration aimed to create a range of unusual and eye-catching watches. Albert was an exceptionally talented artist who felt passionate about modern art, such as the works of Brancusi and Mondrian; the unique and daring cases he created for Patek Philippe fascinate the viewer today as much as on the day they were made.
