Gold open faced lever watch

A French 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch made by Le Roy et Fils, Horloger de la Marine, on Palais Royal, 13-15 Galerie Montpensier in Paris, circa 1878. This watch features a hand wound mechanical lever movement. The white enamel dial displays Roman numerals for the hours, a minute track with Arabic five minute numerals, golden pear shaped hands, and a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock. The round 18 carat yellow gold case features a plain polished back. The case back is engraved with the Latin dedication Quid non dilectis, meaning que n’ferait-on pas pour ce qu’on aime (What wouldn’t we do for what we love?). The double gold cuvette is numbered and engraved Le Roy et Fils Horloger de la Marine Palais Royal 13 et 15 Galerie Montpensier. Accompanied by the original signed presentation case.
