Gilt metal open faced keyless verge watch
–
A fine French gilt metal open faced automaton repeating pocket watch, circa 1825. It has a mechanical key winding full plate movement with a verge fusee escapement, a pierced and engraved balance bridge, and two hammers striking internal gongs to repeat the hours and quarter hours. The skeletonized dial features a central semi skeleton aperture revealing the inner motion works. This is framed by an annular enamel outer chapter ring with white panels showing painted black Arabic numerals for the hours, a blue enamel minute track, and gilt Breguet style hands. Flanking the central hour plate are two applied gilded metal Jacquemart automaton figures that strike their respective bells in tandem with the mechanical repeating sequence.

The timepiece is housed in a round three body gold plated metal open faced case with a delicately engraved reverse back cover decorated with detailed floral and foliage scroll motifs, a reeded caseband, a fluted winding pendant, and a sturdy round suspension bow. The watch is accompanied by a decorative matching gold plated chain with an ornate winding key.
