Interesting small coach alarm clock
–
An interesting, early small coach clock, made by Silvestre in Paris, France, circa 1760. The numbered case of this watch is crafted from brass, is covered with ray skin, has a rim with sound openings and a bell. The original Louis XV enamel dial features an outer ring with Arabic 5 minute numerals, Roman hour numerals, probably original gold hands and an iron hand for the alarm. The excellent quality movement is fitted with a very fine cylinder escapement, a fire gilt plate and two barrels, one of which is wonderfully engraved, for escapement and alarm.
The case and movement have matching numbers and the dial and movement are signed.

The item presented here is an Interesting restoration object: The movement is intact, but needs cleaning, the alarm needs to be overhauled, the glass is missing and the ray skin is incomplete.
The watch was probably crafted by Joseph Silvestre, a master in Paris from 1755, an employee of Julien Le Roy. The movement is of exceptionally fine quality for a coach clock of this period.
