An observatory chronometer, L’Observatoire de Besançon, made by G. Charpentier, Horloger de la Marine in Paris, France, circa 1890. The decorative and numbered open faced case of this watch is crafted from gunmetal and rose gold, and has a monogram on the back. The white enamel dial has Arabic hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and rose gold hands. The movement has a moustache lever escapement, a chronometer balance wheel and wolf’s teeth.
The cuvette is engraved with the technical details, signed and marked L.F. & F Paris 1878-1889 Médailles d’Or.
