Gilt metal verge chatelaine watch
–
A French gilt metal pocket watch and matching chatelaine suite made by Rebilliere in Paris, circa 1760. This watch features a mechanical hand wound movement with a traditional verge escapement and a skeletonised balance cock. The white enamel dial shows Roman numerals for the hours, an outer railway minute track with Arabic five minute numerals, gilt hands, and a winding square at 2 o’clock. The dial is set under a high domed bullseye glass crystal. The pocket watch is enclosed in a gilt metal case with a hinged glass back cover that provides a clear view of the intricately engraved and pierced gilt brass movement plates.
–
The accompanying chatelaine is crafted from five interconnected gilt metal plates with a flat, plain, polished reverse structure and a heavy, smooth central mounting clip. Suspended from the chains are two matching gilt metal winding keys inset with polished white and red agate slices. One key is broken.
