Gilt Oignon pocket watch

A rare French Parisian quarter repeating verge pocket watch Oignon from the former property of a French nobleman, circa 1715. Full plate fire gilt movement with verge escapement, 2 hammers, chain/fusee, Egyptian pillars, pierced and engraved bridge cock, small silver regulator disc, main plate signed.
Fire gilt chased and engraved dial, cartouches with black Roman numerals and blued steel hands.
The case is pierced and engraved and decorated with a band of ornamental sound holes around the edge on the back side to emphasise the beautiful sound of the strike. In the centre, you can see an elaborately designed monogram, crowned by a French count’s crown.
