A rare French oval fragment of a one handed Historism style pendant watch with hour strike, circa 1880. Brass fire gilt case with finely engraved scenes set in an Alpine landscape: front with a hound chasing a stag, back with a running hare, foliate border. Open work narrow side with foliate decoration and a hound chasing hare and stag. Brass fire gilt dial with inlaid radial Roman numerals I-XII and Arabic 13-24, applied hour knobs for time reading by night, engraved view of a castle in the centre, florally engraved outer border and arrow shaped single iron hand. Oval brass full plate movement, applied floral decorations, 2 barrels, one hammer, one bell, chain/fusee, verge escapement, baluster movement pillars, three arm brass balance, fine florally engraved and pierced balance cock.
