A historically important American 18 carat gold open faced lever pocket watch, circa 1862. This watch was a gift from President Abraham Lincoln to his party friend David Dudley Field. Gilt, frosted 3/4 plate movement, screwed chatons, blued screws, reversible clutch center pinion patented Nov. 30, 1858, florally hand engraved balance cock, screwed compensation balance, blued balance spring, counterpoised lever, chatoned diamond endstone on balance. Engine turned gold cuvette. White enamel dial with radial Roman hours, sunken center and auxiliary seconds, blued spade hands. Chased case, case maker’s punch mark AT&Co., inscribed To David Dudley Field, Abraham Lincoln 1862. Comes with original mahogany presentation box.
