Silver pair cased pocket watch by John Rayner
–
A large and early English pair cased verge pocket watch, circa 1687-1727. This pocket watch is housed in silver pair cases that bear matching maker’s marks IB (with crown) and English watchpaper. It is equipped with an early English verge movement, known for its exceptional quality and featuring beautifully crafted pillars and a cock adorned with a child’s portrait. This style of decoration was typical for watches made in England between the years 1700 and 1720. The watch also boasts a well-preserved enamel dial with Roman radial hours, an outer minutes track displaying Arabic five-minute numerals, and elegant blued steel poker and beetle hands.
