Gold watch with black enamel dial by Jacob Kock

A gold oversized Swedish single cased watch with black enamel dial, circa 1767. It has a gilded full plate movement with a large pierced balance bridge decorated with scrolling foliage, flat three arm balance, fusee and chain, and square baluster pillars. It is signed and numbered by Jacob Kock from Stockholm, 103. The dial is black enamel with white Arabic hour numerals, an outer Arabic minute ring, and decorative paste set skeletonised hands. The plain gold outer case features engraved bezels and bands, along with a gold and case maker’s mark [indistinct and rubbed] and a gilt metal bow.

The dial is clean and free from cracks or chips. The case is in good overall condition, with very minor dents on the case back. There is a small tear or repair at the opening button in the band, which is visible when the watch is open. The movement is operational when wound.

Jacob Kock (1737-1805) was a clockmaker from Stockholm who served as the clockmaker to King Gustav III of Sweden.
