Gold quarter repeater pocket watch with an unusual dial

A Swiss 18-carat gold open-faced quarter repeating cylinder pocket watch, circa 1824. Gilt half-plate keywind movement with visible repeat mainspring under a gilt bridge, suspended going barrel with polished steel Geneva stopwork, plain cock with blue steel regulator, plain three armed gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring, polished steel cylinder and steel escape wheel, push pendant quarter repeating on two polished steel gongs. Unusual enamel dial, monochrome floral decoration to the center, white Roman numerals and minute ring on a black ground, the elements of the dial separated by three gilt rope effect rings, gold hands. Plain case, gold push pendant for the repeat with locking slide in the plain band, wound and set through the gilt cuvette which is bordered by the inscription Les Actionnaires du Winkelried a Monsr. Thomas Potter – Geneve 1824.

An interesting watch. The inscription appears to indicate the watch was given to Thomas Potter by the shareholders of the Winkelried. This was an early paddle steamer, which operated on Lac Leman Geneva in 1824.
