Gold pocket watch with special movement
–
An exceptionally small pocket watch with special movement made by Patek, Philippe & Cie in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1900. The numbered open faced case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold, has a monogram on the back and the numbered cuvette is marked A.D. Overstrijd Rotterdam. The white enamel dial has Arabic hour numerals, an outer minute track and gold hands. The numbered movement has a very fine precision lever escapement, a moustache lever and a special mechanism to protect against excessive spring tension.
Case, cuvette, dial and movement are signed.

Diameter: 27 mm
–
Weight: 19 g
–
Signed: Patek, Philippe & Cie Genève
–
The size of only 27 mm is extremely rare for Patek Philippe. Despite the small case size, a highly refined precision lever movement was used and not a simpler cylinder movement, as is usual for ladies’ watches.

A.D. Overstrijd
A.D. Overstrijd was a jeweller from Rotterdam who imported watches and clocks and sold them under his own name. He handed over the business to his sons, went to live in his beloved France and died in 1938. His sons were not so lucky, their shop was located in the part of Rotterdam that was bombed in 1940 and they were later taken to a concentration camp where they died in 1943.
