A fine Swiss, quarter repeating, 18K gold, a keyless pocket watch with blacksmith automaton Jacks, circa 1900. Made for the Indian Market. Retailed by Hamilton & Co., Calcutta. A polished case, a hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman chapter ring, outer minute track, the centre with animated blacksmiths forging during repeating, creating the illusion that the sound is made by striking the anvil. Blued steel spade hands. A nickel-plated movement, Geneva striping decoration, 35 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide in the band. Cuvette signed by the retailer.
