Gold open faced lever watch
–
A Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch from the turn of the 20th century. It has a mechanical movement with lever escapement. The white enamel dial shows black Roman numerals for the hours, an outer railway minute track with Arabic five minute numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and gilt Louis XV style hands. The 18 carat yellow gold case back is elaborately decorated with a chased and engraved floral and foliate motif, centring an unengraved shield shaped cartouche. The case has a recessed caseband and a double 18 carat gold cuvette. The watch is topped with a fluted crown and a rounded bow at 12 o’clock.
