Gold hunting cased lever clock watch

A very fine Swiss, 18K gold hunting cased, keyless, double train, Grande Sonnerie carillon clockwatch with trip minute repeater and an unusual micrometre regulator, circa 1900. A massive, polished, hinged gold cuvette cover. White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute ring, subsidiary seconds. Gold spade hands.

A frosted and gilt movement, double train, 32 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, Rosat micrometre regulator, Breguet balance spring, striking and repeating on three gongs with three hammers, Strike/Silence optional lever on the bezel border. Repeating on gongs with push-piece in the band. Movement stamped with patent numbers, both granted to Cézar Racine for his Grande Sonnerie system and granted to Charles Rosat for his micrometre regulator. Granted to Ditisheim & Cie for the repeat governor.

Clock watches with carillons are rare. On February 6, 1899, Cézar Racine filed for a patent improving Grande Sonnerie watches. It was quite successful and a number of companies took advantage of it.
