A very fine and very rare Italian varicoloured gold, ruby and turquoise-set quarter repeating cylinder pocket watch with a concealed erotic scene, circa 1830. The concealed erotic scene The Lovers by Musy Pere et Fils. The case is decorated with applied yellow, green, and rose gold floral and foliate motifs set with rubies and turquoise, the band and bow decorated to match. Hinged gold cuvette set with a finely painted enamel panel depicting a couple in a compromising position. Gold engine-turned dial with a chequerboard pattern, radial Roman numerals on polished reserves, outer minute track and blued steel Scottie’s hands. A frosted gilt movement, standing barrel, cylinder escapement, three-arm gold balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by depressing the pendant. Dial signed.
