Gold full hunter keyless lever watch
–
A fine and rare Swiss 18 carat yellow gold full hunter ladies’ pocket watch with inset portrait medallions made in Switzerland, circa 1900. This watch has a mechanical manual wind movement featuring a lever escapement. The white enamel dial shows black Roman numerals for the hours, an outer minute track with Arabic five minute markers, a subsidiary small seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and ornate gold hands.

The timepiece is housed in a substantial three body, 18 carat solid yellow gold full hunter case stamped with an 18K gold hallmark. It features a fluted winding crown, an adjacent small button pusher for hand setting, and a sturdy round suspension bow. The exterior of one hinged cover has a central black enamel oval reserve with a finely chased gold foliate scroll motif within a scalloped gold border. The opposite cover centres an identical black enamel oval reserve, richly set with a large floral cluster of rose cut diamonds. Both covers are framed by a vibrant blue champlevé enamel band punctuated with delicate gold stars and stylised floral quatrefoils. The inside of the hinged covers reveals a unique pair of finely executed polychrome portrait miniatures on enamel. The front lid houses an oval inset medallion painting depicting the Virgin Mary with a halo. The back cover centres a matching medallion portrait of Jesus Christ wearing the crown of thorns.
