A Swiss gold manual-winding lever dress watch with a lapis-lazuli dial, circa 1900.
Movement with lever escapement and adjusted five positions to temperature. Lapis-lazuli dial with original gold Alpha hands. Round-shaped 18K yellow gold case with decorated bezel and snap-on case back. Dial, case and movement signed.
Accompanied by two heavy 18K gold Piaget chains (Ref. A04411 and Ref. A04354; total length 62.5 cm.

Lapis lazuli is azure blue, blue-purple, pale green or red. The stone is opaque with a vitreous to a greasy sheen. Lapis lazuli consists of most of the mineral lazurite (blue), with often also some calcite (white), sodalite (blue) and pyrite (gold). In addition, it may also contain (traces of) augite, diopside, enstatite, mica, hornblende and haüyn.
