Half hunting cased keyless pocket watch

A Swiss 18 carat yellow gold half hunting cased keyless pocket watch with chronograph and quarter repeating mechanism, made by Marchand & Sandoz, circa 1900. The watch features a gold case, round on hinge, with a signed gold bowl. The case is fully adorned with stylised motifs and includes a slide for the alarm and a push button for the chronograph. It has a white enamel dial with Roman numerals, a central chronograph hand, a railroad style minute track, a small second hand (accidental), and spade shaped hands. The movement is mechanical, equipped with a lever escapement, crown winding, striking mechanism with hammers on a gong, spiral balance, and advanced and late adjustments.

Marchand & Sandoz was based in La Chaux-de-Fonds from approximately 1885 to 1900. The company won a gold medal at the 1896 Geneva Exhibition and a diplôme d’honneur in Brussels. Its successor was Paul Sandoz & Cie.
