Gold hunting cased minute repeating chronograph watch

A rare and exceptionally fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold hunting cased pocket watch with minute repeater and polychrome enamel painted portrait, made for the Indian market, circa 1900. This customized presentation timepiece features a mechanical manual wind movement with a minute repeater, a chronograph function, and a stop second mechanism. The white enamel dial combines black Roman and Arabic numerals for the hours and timing tracks, blued steel spade hands, a central chronograph hand, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and a 30 minute chronograph counter at 12 o’clock.

The masterpiece is housed in a substantial 18 carat solid yellow gold full hunter case. The outer front cover displays a polychrome enamel painted portrait miniature of Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur, in lavender clothing and adorned with a ruby and pearl necklace. The back cover features a multicoloured heraldic enamel depiction of the coat of arms and flag of Jodhpur. The gold inner cuvette is personalized with an elaborate engraving for H.H. The Maharaja Sardar Singhji Saheb Bahadur of Jodhpur. This historical timepiece is accompanied by a fine wooden box.
