Unsigned gold keyless full hunter lever automaton
–
A Swiss 18 carat gold quarter repeating keyless hunting cased lever watch with jacquemarts automaton, circa 1900. This watch features an unsigned frosted gilded movement with a lever escapement, compensation balance, a revolving governor mounted to the backplate, and two satin finished hammers repeating on coiled gongs. The white enamel dial showcases Arabic numerals and a gilt pearled outer minute ring, mounted on a mother of pearl plate and flanked by two striking Jacquemarts female figures, whose arms strike bells above, and the base of the dial plate is adorned with two birds. The 18 carat gold case has engine turned covers, with the front featuring a monogrammed cartouche, a polished gold cuvette engraved with Médaille d’Or 1895, along with typical exhibition medals and movement details, and a repeating slide to the band, with covers and cuvette numbered.

The movement isn’t initially running, but a slight impetus has set the watch in motion for several minutes. The mechanism is operational, although the hands are out of sync by three hours. The repetition was tested, and it sounded correct for hours and quarters. The dial is generally in good condition, but one screw securing the bird plaque is rusty. The metal of the Jacquemarts figures is difficult to identify, yet they are tarnished. The case has several light indentations, and the engine-turning is more worn at the edges. The thin cuvette bears rippling indentations and does not close securely. Both covers, and the cuvette is stamped with the Swiss Helvetia head.
