Unsigned split seconds chronograph, probably Vallée de Joux

A Swiss, keyless winding full hunter lever pocket watch with split seconds chronograph, circa 1890-1900.
Rhodium plated movement, going barrel, straight line equilibrated lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensated balance with gold poising screws and blued steel hairspring with a terminal curve, index regulator; chronograph work on the top plate; split seconds work mounted under the dial. Round-shaped 18 Carat pink gold polished case. Enamel dial with Roman radial hours, outer minutes/seconds track with Arabic five minutes/seconds numerals, original Breguet-style hands, and two horological complications: – 1/5 second chronograph (activated by the winding crown); – Split seconds (activated by the olive shaped push piece located on the case band at 12 o’clock).

The movement of this quality watch was probably made in the Vallée de Joux, in a workshop of the level of those of: – Louis-Elisée Piguet (1836-1924), Le Brassus (Vallée de Joux); – Emile-Victorin Piguet (1850-1937), Le Sentier (Vallée de Joux). The main plate, under the dial, was scratched with an etching needle 2422.
