–
A fine and rare Swiss 18K gold and enamel, pearl-set quarter-repeating keyless lever automaton with Jacquemarts made for the Chinese market, circa 1900. Garden Romance by J. Ullmann & Co. Champlevé enamelled band, the spring-loaded case back painted on enamel with a courting couple in a formal garden on a dark blue guilloché enamel ground, both bezels set with half pearls. Hinged gold cuvette.
Translucent blue guilloché enamel dial with gold radial Roman hours, outer gold paillon minute track and subsidiary second, flanked by polychrome enamel figures of Chronos and cherubs appearing to repeat the hours and quarters on bells, the whole on a blued steel plate, gold cathedral hands. Frosted gilt 3/4 plate movement, 12 jewels, lateral lever escapement, cut-bimetallic compensation balance with Breguet balance spring, repeating on gongs activated by a slide in the band. Cuvette signed and inscribed with erroneous technical details.
