Open faced repeating lever watch by Marc Plojoux

A Swiss gunmetal open faced minute repeating keyless lever pocket watch, circa 1930. This watch has a handwound movement with a compensation balance and lever escapement. It features a minute repeater operated by a slide release, striking on a tone spring. The dial is beige with railway minute markers, black Arabic numerals, blued hands, and a small seconds display at 6 o’clock. The case is smooth, blackened steel. The dust cover bears the maker’s mark and the engravings, The property of blind school, and Swiss Cottage, NW. It is wound via the crown.

Plojoux, Marc, Swiss watchmaker
Marc Plojoux was a renowned Geneva watchmaker specialising in complicated watches and jewellery. He founded the company M. Plojoux, later M. Plojoux & Cie, and his workshop was situated at 30 Rue du Rhône. Plojoux received two awards at the 1878 Universal Exposition in Paris; he also won a gold medal in Groningen (Netherlands) in 1880, and participated in the Swiss National Exposition in Geneva in 1896. The archives of the Swiss Watch Federation mention several business partners: Marc-Gustave-John Plojoux, Michel-Ange Plojoux (MA Plojoux), Marie Plojoux, and Gaston Plojoux.
